The president said Ukraine needs tools capable of destroying ballistic-missile launchers.

The first strike came on the evening of 26 October. A ballistic missile hit a university dormitory, killing one person and injuring ten. Most of those injured were students, and paramedics were among the victims. In the Desnianskyi district, strikes were reported near a metro station and in a residential building, while two medical facilities and a non-residential building were damaged in the Dniprovskyi district. A second wave began around 3:30 a.m. on 27 October, triggering a red air-alert level in Kyiv. A strike in the Podilskyi district hit an administrative building, and two other non-residential buildings were damaged. Southern Bridge was also struck and damaged. Traffic across the bridge was restricted, while damage to metro infrastructure led to service restrictions on the red and green lines.

Ukrainian reporting places the official warnings and assessments of the Air Force, the president, the Kyiv mayor and the city administration at the centre of the coverage. It emphasises the human cost of the first strike, particularly the large number of injured students and the presence of emergency medical workers among the victims, as well as the local consequences in individual districts. The president links the attacks to delays in air-defence support and calls for tools capable of destroying ballistic-missile launchers.
